Crewing
The crewing module is used to manage crew members, planning, rest and work hours, documents such as passports and certificates, IMO FAL forms, and much more. To support this extensive process, various tools exist to ease the administrative workload. For example, you can create a required document template once, and then apply it to roles. This way, you won’t have to create a new list of documents for new crew members.
Overview
Your overview will be completely empty if you start from scratch. You can add a new crew member by pressing the ‘Add crew member’ button, or by right-clicking on the empty crew member list:

You can now enter all the details. A crew member’s information is divided into topics:
- Personal – standard personal details such as name, address, which location this person sails on, etc.
- Documents – documents such as certificates, ID’s, medical statements, and more
- Schedules – the work schedule for this crew member, can also be managed in planning
- Safety Drills – an overview of the safety drills (see Safety module) this person participated in
- Rest-Work Hours- the number of hours worked and rested
- Contracts – the work contract for this crew member, this can be standarized as well with a template
- Remarks – personal remarks, this tab can be protected by a permission
- OCIMF – a link with OCIMF, mainly used in the inland tanker industry
- Signature – the signature of this crew member
Planning and scheduling
There are three ways to schedule a crew member:
- Personal profile -> schedules
- Planning – > schedule crew member
- Overview -> click checkbox in front of the crew member’s name
You can only schedule crew members if they are linked to a location:

We will start with the more detailed approach. Go to the crew member’s profile and click on ‘Schedules’. Click on ‘New Schedule’:

Enter the details. You can make a schedule recurrent, meaning that it will keep repeating for a certain number of recurrences. You can also schedule a crew member in the planning overview. Simply drag and drop a status, e.g., on board, to the plan board. You can also extend a schedule by making the schedule larger or shorter (select the ridges):

You can also select a different view type, for example ‘Location -> Rank’. This displays the location and ranks on the left, and the list of crew members on the right:

Managing work and rest hours
To add or edit work and rest hours, go to:
- The rest and work hours function (global, work and rest hours of all crew members)
- The crew member’s profile -> rest and work hours (personal, work and rest hours of a single crew member)
To add or remove a work and rest hour entry, simply click the half-hour box. You can also hold your mouse and then drag it to select multiple boxes at once:

Managing documents
We highly recommend setting up the so called ‘Required documents’ function. This function:
- Determines which documents are assigned to each role (e.g., captain, chief engineer, etc.)
- Automatically shows/updates these documents in the profile of each crew member
We will start with setting up the required documents in the crewing settings. Go to ‘Crewing Settings’ | Documents List | ‘Add group’:

Right-click a group to add the required certificate, for example ‘Medical First Aid’. We can now tell Marad which documents should be displayed for each role:

The result is a centrally-managed document list in the profile of ‘John Doe’ with the rank ‘Master’:
