Implementation

In this chapter, we will highlight a basic implementation case: creating a planned maintenance schedule based on our manual.

Implementation

We will now start with implementation. First, we will open the manual that the manufacturer of our engine provided:

As you can see, the manufacturer has defined multiple systems: charge air, fuel, lube oil, and more. We will create a component in maintenance called ‘Main Engine’ and create a sub-component called ‘Lube Oil System’:

The manual specifies all the required information. In this case we’ll need to check the main engine on lubricating oil leaks. This has to be done every day. Select the system to which you want to add a job and press ‘Add job’. An ‘Add job’ screen will pop up with different tabs. It’s now time to fill in all the information from the manual such as job descriptions and documents from the engine supplier with detailed explanations of the job that you’ll have to perform.

As you can see we’ve filled in the job name, type (interval), category (in this case maintenance, this can also be ‘1000 hours’, ‘5000 hours’, etc.), time, rank (chief engineer, 2nd engineer, etc), start date and intervals. The before due and overdue intervals decide when Marad will warn you that the job has to be done. One of the most important tabs is the job card. The job name alone is not enough information for an engineer; you’ll have to specify what he/she has to do. Checking for leaks is easy, but replacing a fuel injector for the first time requires a manual.

The other tabs (documents, template, parts, logs and financial) are in this case not relevant, as we don’t need a manual, template (can be used to force a user to fill in a form, etc), parts (we do not use any spare parts for this job), logs (because we haven’t build up any history yet) and financial (checking for leaks doesn’t cost anything).

As you can see we’ve now successfully created our first job in Marad. The indicator is orange because the job has reached its due date.
