Installing Marad on multiple devices (network installation)

General

It is possible to install Marad on multiple onboard computers, for example in the bridge, engine room, your personal cabin, deck office, etc. To do so, a network installation is needed. The Marad ‘server’ software can be installed on any Windows device. One of the computers acts as a server, the other computers as clients. The vessel version and its database therefore only have to be installed on the server, as the clients simply read and write data to the server.

Requirements

To install Marad in network mode, you need at least:

• Multiple computers
• A Marad vessel installation file (generated in the office/online version)
• A Marad office installation file (you can download this file in the download portal)
• A Marad prerequisites installation file (you can download this file in the download portal)

Installing the server (primary device)

• Step one is to select a primary device which you would like to use as the server. We always recommend the bridge computer as its the device with the highest uptime. This is important as the computer (and therefore Marad server) must be on in order to function as such. If it’s off, other computers cannot access the data.

• Install the Marad prerequisties on the server computer. You can download the prerequisites in the download portal.

• Accept the license agreement and select ‘Marad 5 Network Server’

• Install the SQL server. This might take a few minutes, depending on the specifications of your computer.

• The green progress bar will disappear after the server has finished installing. You can now press ‘Close’.

Installing the Marad vessel installation file

• You are now ready to install the Marad setup file. This will install the vessel version (including the database) on your primary device. You can generate a vessel version in Marad Desktop or Marad Web. First, unzip the setup file:

Installing the client (secondary device)

Installing Marad on another device is extremely easy. You need the following files:

• Marad Office installation file (can be found in the download portal)
• Marad license file (can be found in the installation folder of the primary device, or requested from our support)

Follow the steps below to add another device to the Marad network:

• Download the installation file and find the Marad license file (marad5.lic)
• Run the .exe file
• In the installation wizard, choose ‘Custom | Offline’
• Finish the installation and restart Marad
• Click on ‘Import license file’ and import your marad5.lic file
• Select ‘Network mode’, Marad will now try to find the Marad server on your network
• Select the Marad server. If you cannot find it, try the troubleshooting steps from the Marad installation manual.
